REGIONAL PARK TABURNO-CAMPOSAURO

The Mount Taburno is the heart of the Regional Park of Taburno, in the area of Benevento. The sides on the south and on the west have steep walls and furrowed by deep gullies on Valle Caudina, center of ancient roman settlements; the western side slopes down with a series of hills uup to the Benevento valley crossed by Calore river . At its base the abundant sources of Fizzo gush out; once they fed the falls of the Real Park of Royal Palace of Caserta. Beyond the thousand meters the State property Forest of Taburno is found, already Borboni's reserve , constituted by fir- trees and beech trees. From the summit of the mount an immense panorama is enjoyed on all Valle Caudina, closed on the opposite part by the massif of Partenio. On the west, where the valley becomes more narrow, there is a white spot on the flank of the mount: this is the quarry of Mount Tairano, where in 321 a.C.Romans were defeated by Sanniti.Beyond Partenio, in the more limpid days, Vesuvius and the Mounts Lattari can be admired, and, if the air is particularly clean, it's possible to see also the partenopean islands. On the opposite part, the sight spaces on all the massif Taburno-Camposauro and the mounts of Matese on the north; towards east we see the hills of the Sannio Beneventano. Unfortunately there isn't an abundant fauna: the more meaningful species is without doubt the imperial crow, but it's possible to observe also kestrels and buzzards , while it's easy to hear in the forest, the cincia mora, the cinciallegra, the wren, the robin, the blackbird, the jay, the woodpecker, the tree creeper and the wood pigeon.
