REGIONAL PARK OF MATESE
The Regional Park of Matese was founded on April 12th 2002
to safeguard one of the greatest and important areas of calcareous nature and
dolomitic present in our region. It extends for around 25 thousand hectares
and includes the homonym mountainous chain. Rocks, pastures, lakes and widbeech-woods
characterize the most elevated quotas, while mixed woods, chestnut-trees and
oaks cover the inferior slopes. In the park the wolf, the marten, the badger
and the eagle live. The territory of Matese is constituted by a chain of predominantly
calcareous mountains situated between Molise and Campania. It's a territory
rich in wild places, sweet landscapes, with lakes from the blue waters in which
the tops of the mountains, original historical and excellently preserved centers
reflect .The lakes and the sources represent another key of important reading
for the area of the regional Park.
The presence on the highlands of Matese of well three lakes (Matese, Gallo and
Letino) has determined a marvelous natural habitat; the valley is one of the
most beautiful of the Appennino and, at the same time one of the best preserved
for the landscape.
