
OASIS SAN SILVESTRO WOOD
Adjacent to the Royal Palace of Caserta, near the park of Vanvitelli, San Silvestro Wood, integral part of the real abode, includes the two hills of Montemaiuolo and Montebriano. It 'an "evergreen"wood constituted by many ilexes,and other trees as the Turkey oak, the hornbeam, the manna-ash, the chestnut tree, the oak wood, the maple, the cherry, the horse-chestnut tree and different conifers. In some warmer parts the wood clears to make place to olive-trees and to other plants of the mediterranean stain as the viburno, the alaterno, the myrtle, the corbezzolo, the laurel, the fillirea, the mastic, the butcher's broom. In the wood there is the typical fauna of the mediterranean environment. Among the mammals we find the doormouse, the badger, the fox, the weasel, the marten, the curl, the dormouse, the fallow deer and the roe. Numerous the birds that choose this area as stop during the migrations. Among the species which spend the winter are signalled the white and ballerina, the fiorrancino, the siskin, the wryneck, the robin; among those nesting there are the turtle dove, the hoopoe, the wood pidgeon, the small verla, the black bunting, the codibugnolo, the nightingale, the rigolo and the cuckoo. Other birds live in the wood the whole year: the great red, green and mason woodpecker, the blackcap, the goldfinch, the wren, the chaffinch, the blackbird and the jay, symbol of the oasis. Numerous also the diurnal and nighttime birds of prey, as the kestrel, the buzzard, the owl, the horn howl, the barn owl, while among the interesting reptiles there are the colubro leopardino, the cervone, the biacco, the Aesculapian snake, the snake with the collar and the luscengola.
HOW TO ARRIVE
It's situated in San Leucio in province of Caserta. From the
tollgate of Caserta Nord or Caserta Sud follow the indication"oasis WWF"
direction San Leucio and to the crossroads of Briano take the road for Castelmorrone.
