OASIS OF PANNARANO

The oasis is situated in the heart of the Regional Park of Partenio. It's extended by the 800 ms on the sea up to the 1598 ms. on the sea of the Mountains of Avella, peak of the massif. The geologic skeleton is purely of calcareous nature but the volcanic activity of the Mount Somma-Vesuvius has enriched the territory of piroclastic material making fertile the grounds, but also extremely fragile.The oasis has a notable vegetable complexity and is characterized by vegetable species both of a Mediterranean and appenninic environment . The courses of water are of torrential kind. The territory is covered by a deciduous wood typical of Appennino in which dominates the beech tree, the holly and the yew-tree and in the damp and less elevated places the Neapolitan alder-tree. There are also wild lime-trees, oriental hornbeam, willow of the goats and, on the sunnier rocky parts, the ilex. Around the 1200 ms., the lily martagone blooms, symbol of the oasis, and on the tallest peaks, the pendulina rose. Among the amphibians we find a particular subspecies of dappled salamander, denominated salamander gigliolii. Notable is the avifauna: buzzard, sparrow hawk, astore, kestrel, imperial crow, brown kite and wandering bend . Among the mammals there are: fox, weasel, marten, badger and, in the last years, the wolf.

HOW TO ARRIVE

It is situated in province of Benevento, in the locality of Pannarano.
By car
1) On the highway A16 exit to Avellino Ovest, go in direction Pietrastornina, passing for Ospetaletto Di Alpinolo, Summonte and Sant'Angeloa Scala. Just before to enter the country of Pietrastornina, on the left there is a poster of the Mount Community with a photo of the mountain, the road that departs from there after 8 Kms brings to the oasis in the place Acqua delle Vene.

2) Who comes from Naples via Caserta, must go in direction Montesarchio (BN), continue for Pannarano, Roccabascerana and Pietrastornina. Just crossed the country on the right, there is a road in slope and a poster
of the Mount Community (it is the same place of the point 1) after 8 Kms of ascent you arrive to the oasis in the place Acqua delle Vene.
