NATURAL STATE RESERVE VALLE DELLE FERRIERE
The Natural Reserve, instituted in 1972, is inserted between the 41 Italian biogeneticses reserves taken a census by the Council of Europe and it extends on 455 hectares situated in a wide valley between the mountains of the locality of Scala (SA), to the border between Amalfi and Agerola. The valley, situated on the Amalfi side of Sorrento coast, is crossed for all its extension by Canneto Torrent, that rises in locality Lama dei Gatti and crosses the Natural Reserveof Valle delle Ferriere, creating a spectacular series of falls. Canneto reaches its maximum consistency to the height of the affluence of the waters of Ceraso Torrent that feeds the aqueduct that serves the localities of Amalfi, Scala and Atrani. From here it wedges in the Grevone valley, crossing the ruins of the ancient ironmills and the water mills. The complex geomorphology of the territory, united to the microclimatic variations, determine a typical example of "inversion of the vegetation": in fact, while on the bottom of the valleyé there is a mixed forest , the overhanging walls accommodate vegetal formations typically mediterranean, spot and garica. As fauna we find the wild boar, the common hare, the fox and the badger. As avifauna we remember the blackbird, the thrush and the goldfish and between the reptiles we find the salamander.
