Amalfi coast and Salerno

The Amalfi coast is an endless source of beauty: the Fjord at Furore, Praiano, Ravello with its breathtaking views and the superb Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo;the famous Amalfi and Positano, Vietri sul Mare and theEmerald Grotto(Grotta dello Smeraldo), in the heart of the bay at Conca dei Marini,where - at a depht of about 4 metres -you can admire an underwater ceramic Nativity scene.Salerno is situated on a narrow stretch of land between the Amalfi coast and the Sele Plain ; on one side lies the sea and on the other the Bonadies hillside topped by the Byzantine Arechi Castle.

The area abounds in roman remains(villas and temples)many of which now lie below the clear waters of the bay.Pozzuoli has a history which spans the millennia and is the main town in the Phlegrean Fields. It occupies a stupendous position on a tufa stone promontory projecting into the beautiful Gulf of Pozzuoli between the headlands of Posillipo and Miseno.One important site is the Serapeum(the ancient market place) the Duomo on Rione Terra and the Flavian Amphitheatre.

In Campania there are some of the most interesting archaeological areas of the world:Pompei and Ercolano, near Naples where you find the famous excavations; Paestum, near Salerno ,which preserves the biggest archaeological treasures of Magna Grecia;Elea-Velia,situated in the zone of Cilento.Portici is the heart of the famous Golden Mile so called because of the numerous Villas built on the slopes of Vesuvius; it's famous also for the Royal Palace and for the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum .

The Nazional Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano is rich of historical, architectonic, religious remains which show the the long way of the populations during the millennia. Caserta, Avellino, Benevento

Caserta is famous for the great Royal Palace by Vanvitelli which was the Borbone's Royal Palace;in the surroundings there is the Mount Matese famous for its splendid park;Avellino and Benevento are situated in the internal part of Campania and offer great mountains between them: the Mount Taburno, with many paths to explore.

Islands

The main islands of Campania are Capri called the Azure Isle because its grey limestone takes on an azure hue as it reflects the sky and the sea.Capri is famous not only for its beautiful landscapes, but also for the monumental sites as the Gardens of Augustus, the Certosa of San Giacomo and Villa San Michele museum and the beautiful Piazzetta. Ischia is an important spa centre divided into six towns:Ischia with the zone of Porto and the zone of Ponte, Casamicciola Terme, Forio, Barano, Serrara Fontana and Lacco Ameno. Procida has a vulcanic origin and it's still possible to see the tracks of the ancient craters It's the smallest island of Campania and its main features are the narrow roads and the numerous fishermen's villages.
