Acquafidia
At about 1.000 meters above sea level, at a few kilometers from the town center, after the ancient and evocative town of Capo Castello, you will find Acquafidia and its ancient spring of law mineralized water, one of the richest of Partenio.Acquafidia, with its thick woodlands, is the ideal place to organize pleasant picnics in the equipped areas which have been prepared for such purpose.You can reach the location by car or by going along trail 210 climbing the mountain from Mercogliano to Campo Maggiore.

Campo Maggiore
Campo Maggiore, one of the most charming plateaus of Parco Regionale del Partenio, is situated at 1.370 meters above sea level and is the ideal place for all kind of tours: tours on foot, by bike or on horseback, bird watching.You can reach the location by car - along the hairpin bends of the SS road 374 - also on foot, by going along the trail 210.

Sanctuary of Montevergine
At the beginning of the 12th century Guglielmo da Vercelli founded the Abbey of Montevergine, which in a few years became a reference point in the whole area. The Black Madonna, the so-called Mamma Schiavona, is worshipped here. The new basilica was added to the old church: in it there is the abbey and the permanent exhibit of the Christmas Cribs. The large library which formed during the centuries is housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Abbaziale in Loreto, situated in town.
The sanctuary represents a destination for several visitors: the 2001 estimates counted over 2 million persons, with a growing trend.In order to get to the Sanctuary - beyond SS road 374 - you can choose alternative routes, by parking your car in Mercogliano:
- trail 201 (see Map), used by pilgrims since ancient times
- the cable railway of Montevergine, leading to the Sanctuary in 7 minutes.
The cable railway of Montevergine is one of the fastest in Europe, with a difference in height of about 700 meters and slopes of over the 64%.

The Municipality of Summonte

The Medieval Town
Characterized by the imposing Angioina Tower and by the Castle, housing a permanent exhibit, with various documentation regarding the history of the territory and its natural resources.

Angioina Tower
The tower, which until a few years ago was a ruin, has been recently restored: the walls have been reconstructed, as well as the wooden floor up to the upper level which has been found.

The Amphitheater
In such structure, events like theater performances, concerts of classical music, and presentation of literary works are held during the whole year.

The Church of S.S. Annunziata
It was founded in 1597 on a pre-existing chapel belonging to the feudal vassals. Its plan develops in three naves with four altars on each side; the church has evident baroque features, both in the façade and in the inner decorations.

The Arch of San Nicola
Dedicated to the Saint patron in the Middle Ages, it was one of the gates enabling the access to the fortified structures of the ancient town.

The two fountains of spring water
The ashlars of local stone assembled with a 19th century style are expression of the remarkable artistic and natural values which Summonte is able to combine thanks to its geographical position and to its historical values.
